Homemade Hair Mask
It wasn’t until recently that I ever thought about putting a homemade hair mask on my hair. In prior years, I would walk up and down the fragrant aisles at the market and see what new hair products were out that promised to give me healthier, better looking hair. I have wasted more money on hair care products than I care to admit.
Now I know better. I do believe that regular deep conditioning treatments can be valuable and healthy for the hair, but I skip the heavily fragranced, commercial treatments and peer into my refrigerator and pantry instead! You can create effective, natural homemade hair masks that are much healthier for your hair and the environment (no toxins going down your drain!).
Coconut oil, jojoba oil, and peppermint essential oil:
Combine 2 tbsp coconut oil, 1 tbsp jojoba oil and 3 drops of peppermint oil, and massage into hair. Leave on for 15-30 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Follow with shampoo and conditioner.
This is an invigorating and refreshing hair mask that adds tons of moisture and silkiness to your hair.
Milk and Honey Mask:
Mix together 1 tsp of honey with 8 ounces of milk and massage into hair and roots. Leave for 15 minutes, then rinse off, followed by shampoo.
Banana and Almond Mask:
Mash up one banana, then add a few drops of almond oil and mix well. Massage into hair and allow to sit for 25 minutes, and then rinse.
Avocado and Mayonnaise Mask:
Take 1/4 of an avocado (and save the rest for a healthy snack later!) and mash it well. Add in 1 cup of mayonnaise and mix until combine. Massage into roots and hair, and leave in for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water.
Egg, Olive Oil and Cucumber Mask:
Blend one egg, 2 tbsp of olive oil, and a quarter of a peeled cucumber in a food processor. Spread mixture onto hair and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with water, followed by shampoo.
